My Yearly Post??

So once again, I find myself back here at my blog after a year (more than a year this time) away. Maybe blogging isn't for me. However, I really don't believe that. I think my life has just shifted focus from what I used to do a lot of.... writing. I used to write a lot. So much so that I would go through several journals a year. Now I'm going through several years in a journal. This is a good and a bad thing. Good -- because it means I am busy and have people to talk to and things to do. Bad -- because I'm not writing, and I love to write. So maybe I need to adjust my life to fit in more writing time and less of something else. But what to cut? Will have to ponder this.

Blogging

Evidently I'm not cut out for blogging. Just checked and it's been about a year since my last entry. LOL I know the reason for it, and its the same reason I don't write in my journal as much anymore:
1. I have people to talk to... Jay, Deloris, Stephanie, etc.
2. I don't have time... teaching and the internet take up a lot of my time.

On being a Grandma. . .

Who knew that at 36 I would become a grandmother. A step-grandmother, actually, but still a grandmother. We visited Christa and her new son, Jacobi, in the hospital this weekend. He looked soooo small! His head was the smallest baby's head I've ever seen (besides extreme preemies). Jay was so nervous about holding the wee babe.

We finally met the daddy. First impression: clueless, sagging-pants, thug. Well, maybe thug is too harsh, but he doesn't strike me as very bright. I just hope he's going to be there for Christa and Jacobi. I have my doubts, but only time will tell.

Summer

What does summer mean to me? READING!!! Summer is when I catch up on all the reading I don't get to do during the rest of the year. Teaching takes up soooooo much of my time that I don't get to read but a few books during the school year. My favourite time to read is right before bedtime. I get myself completely ready for bed (brush teeth, wash face, etc.) and then prop up on pillows in bed and read. The problem with this is that I tend to really get into the books I'm reading and next thing I know its 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning! Can't do that on school nights, since I get up at 5:45 a.m. on school days.

Top 100 books?

So I thought this was interesting. Entertainment weekly has published a list of the "new classics". First of all, what authority do they have? Second of all, some of the books on the list are too "new" to be "classics". Anyway, check it out for yourself.

The New Classics: Books

I've only read 8 of them and really haven't even heard of most of them. How many have you read? :-)

Blood

My dad has given 18 gallons of blood so far in his life. I decided it was time that I start giving again. I went back today. I was a bit nervous as it has been almost 9 years since the last time I gave, and that was evident in my elevated heart rate. I almost didn't get to give because it was 103. But they had me rest for a few minutes and took my pulse again, and it was fine. I think today's donate was pint #28. I did some calculating and if I hadn't stopped giving 9 years ago, I'd be on gallon #10 instead of halfway to #4. *sigh* Oh well, can't make up for lost time. I can only move forward.
